Modern Wedding

I wanted to do something a bit more on the unusual or unexpected side when I saw the sketch challenge at Create with Connie and Mary.  Then I figured it's June.  Time for wedding season.  So why not make this into a wedding card.  The paper is from Modern Medley.

Wedding Cake

My brother and sister-in-law were in town for a friend's wedding last weekend.  They had requested a wedding card from me.  So, the afternoon of the wedding, I sat down to make what I thought was a quick wedding card.  Well, I decided I didn't like my original idea, so I went searching.  I had THIS ONE saved in my files and thought it looked easy enough for CASE.  To spare you the details, this took me quite a bit longer than the quick 15minutes I wanted to spend.  I am quite pleased with the result, though.

Here are some close-up pictures.

I used some interesting combination of products here.  The background is Summer Starfruit and Early Espresso.  The pedestal is made by using the retired-Round Tab punch, then oval punch to take away some of the thickness of the pedestal.  The green cardstock is the retired-Pear Pizzazz (**sniff** I hope it comes back in the next color renovation).  The white satin/sheer ribbon is something that was on my desk, I have no clue where it came from.  Is it SU?  I had a strip of cardstock with Scallop Trim border punch under that ribbon.  The leaves are from the Two-Step Bird punch.  The flowers are from the Itty Bitty punch pack.  The tag on top is stamped with Tiny Tags stamp set; and punched with Jewelry Tag punch.  Each cake layer is a small strip of cardstock, with a piece of 1/8" Early Espresso ribbon.  I rounded the cake layers free-handed.  Partially because I forgot to do it before glueing it down.   The cake is popped up with dimensionals on the back.  The card itself is rounded off with the retired-corner rounder.  Oh, the whole thing was 4.75" x 4.75" so that it would fit in my 5"x5" envelope I had from a decade ago.

Always and Forever

Another retiring stamp set here... Always Elegant.  I love this set for wedding cards.  And I love doing wet embossing for wedding cards.  This is a CASE of Candice's card.

I used Primrose Petals, a new In-Color for 2012-2014.  Isn't this a pretty dusty rose color?  A tip for you here: do the border punching BEFORE you emboss.  This particular embossing folder embosses pretty deeply.  If you punch after, I'm afraid cardstock might get stuck in your punch.  Note, this particular border punch, Eyelet Border, is retiring.  Get yours before it's gone!

Anniversary Owl Love

Last weekend was our anniversary weekend.  Last year I made a card with the owl punch.  I figured, might as well continue this year. :)

This card is inspired by something I saw on Pinterest.  I thought it was perfect to showcase one of the new In-Colors, Gumball Green.  See my notation below.

Are you as surprised as I am to see Wild Wasabi being a bit blue???  I certainly was!  I also used a few retiring items.  The main image is done by using Versamark ink on the retiring Love letterpress plate.  The ribbon is Certainly Celery in Satin, also to-be-retired.  The owls' clothes are punched out using Just Add Cake DSP (now 25% off, at $8.21!).

Lastly, I just wanted to note that the size of this card is a bit different than what I usually make (A2, 4 1/4 x 5 1/2).  The overall size is 5x7.  The strips inside are roughly 1"x4 1/4"; with the two ends cut down a bit thinner.

Here's the next card inspired by Qbee.

I had to change from her inspirational card because I don't have the Lace Ribbon border punch she used.  Instead, I used the super soft Pleated Satin ribbon and the retired Basic Gray taffeta.  And also because I just love embosslits, I had to use the Fashionable Hearts embosslit that's new from the Occasions catalog.
