Foldable Tool Caddy

I am having a love affair with my sewing machine. This is like a brand new world of wonder to me! This was my second sewing project that I've ever done. This is a Foldable Tool Caddy. Isn't it cute? You know what I've noticed with my new onset of sewing fever? I {heart} SU fabric! They're of a nice size (Fat Quarters, whatever that means. LOL), and I don't have to wade through the thousands of bolts of fabric in the store trying to pick a pattern and material. I just go straight to my trusty SU fabric and know that everything coordinates! How awesome is that?! Seriously, I was so overwhelmed at the store the other day, I literally had to walk out before anxiety set in.

So any of you out there in blogland have any suggestions for simple sewing projects, please send it my way! I would really appreciate it!!!

Romance Week #4

Sorry about the lack of post yesterday. I just didn't get it together early enough. Here's another card showcasing Bordering on Romance.

I wanted to try out the coordinating stamp that goes with the edgelit. So this was what I made. If you enlarged the picture, you would probably see that the dots on the right kind of trailed off. That's not the stamp's fault, it was me. I don't have a block long enough for this stamp, and didn't notice that the edge fell out of the width of my block. Next time I use it, I would probably just use a little Dotto on my Big Shot cutting plate. It's my go-to "block" for big or long clear-mount stamps. Hey, a stamper's gotta do with what she's got!

Romance Week #1

Happy the day before Valentine's Day! Since this is the week of love and romance, I thought I should do a Romance week of cards featuring Bordering on Romance stamp set from the Occasions Mini catalog.

The very first card this week is inspired by Chiaki.

I don't usually like to color. But I'm surprised at how nicely this stamp set shows off colors. I squeezed some ink from the inkpad onto the lid and used my Blender Pen to pick up the color to color. I started in the center of the flower, then moved out. I didn't use watercolor paper. This is just plain Whisper White. It still took up colors very well. Remember to draw the Blender Pen on scratch paper until it runs clear, then you can use it to pick up a different color. The tip of the pen will be discolored, but don't worry about that. There is no need for different pen for different color here.

Happy Sunday!

Yes, I know this is not a Stampin' Up! card. But this is so darn cute, I just had to share it. I used the Cr*cut's Create a Critter cartridge to cut the kitty and her pillow. Isn't she adorable? I made this card for a 4-year old girl who loves cats. And of course who wouldn't like their cat be all blinged up? The sentiment is from My P!nk Stamper's line.

SU Fabric

I got a brand spanking new sewing machine this week, curtesy of my DH. I don't know how to sew. But hey, why should that deter me from getting a machine, right? Well, since it was here, I figured I might as well jump right in. I was very excited (not! haha... I was terrified actually) to learn how to thread a bobbin, thread the needle and how to pull the lower thread out. Thank goodness for y0utube these days. So, everything got set up without any troubles. After doing a couple of straight stitches, I thought I might as well make a project. This is what I made:

Yes, it's another coffee cozy! LOL. The fabric is from the Twitterpated suite. But this time it looks sooooo much better than my handmade one! Rather than lined with old sock, I lined it with felt, then covered with yet another fabric from the Twitterpated suite.

Then I decided that I was going to make another fabric flower to redeem myself from the last one I made.

This is the view when it's unfolded. Alas, my measurements were just a bit off. I didn't really have much extra fabric for crossing over. I went the easy way and used velcro for the ends to stick together. The green button is only decorative.

This sleeve feels nice and soft. I can't wait to use it!

This card is CASE'd from Angela. Love how simple this card is to make. I didn't have the stamp set she used, but I have the cutey-patootey Button Buddies. I love how the flower in this set matches up with our Scallop Circle punch. Makes card making a breeze! :) The only thing I would change on this card is to stamp the sentiment in Early Espresso, like Angela did. I didn't look at her card closely enough to realize what she did. My sentiment is just a bit faint using Crumb Cake.

Today's card is CASE'd from Georgeann. I don't have the shaker frame, so I adapted it to what I have. I haven't played with my cupcakes for awhile, so I took it out. I mean, what birthday card making session would be complete without cupcakes, right? The birthday greeting is a stamp from the Hostess set, Happiest Birthday Wishes. Here is one reason why I absolutely love Clear-mounted stamps. I could see through my clear block to see exactly where the greeting would line up.

I CASE'd today's card from Anne Marie.

I just love these cheerful colors. Isn't it refreshing in this dreary winter? In working with these thin sheer ribbons, I realize that they really look much better backed with a piece of cardstock, or wrapped several times to give it a little more heft. I just wrapped the ribbon around my fingers a few times, then closed the prongs of the brad around the ribbon to keep it from slipping.

Garden Birthday Revisited

I've bookmarked THIS FABRIC FLOWER TUTORIAL for the longest time. I want to try my hands on using fabric. But as you might know, I don't sew. So I set to find the easiest instructions. I loved this tutorial when I saw it. I finally got some fabric with the Twitterpated suite of products, so I thought I'd try. OK, let me tell you... really, for someone who doesn't sew, and doesn't understand the world and language of sewing, this really took me much longer than it should have. I mean, isn't it just some quick stitching down one side, then pull the thread, and the flower will automatically gather? After sleeping on it, I think my problem was I didn't make the flower into multiple layers. Oh well, it's on the card.

BTW, no, you're not mistaken, I have posted a similar card on the 18th, using Beyond the Garden DSP. I just loved that layout, so why not make a few more cards with it? :)

After the unsatisfying flower, I thought it looked like the paper medallion I have made before. So I gave the paper medallion another go. I embossed the Baja Breeze center with the new Adorning Accents embossing folder.

Then, I thought, instead of using the border punch, I'll use the Pleated Satin ribbon. BTW, have you tried this ribbon yet? Oh, it's so sumptuous! Since the ribbon is a bit thick, I didn't want to add more bulk with the medallion on top, so I went back to the daisy cutout.

Still not quite satisfied, I decided to cut the bottom with an edgelit! Oh, I love the look the edgelit makes! Then, I thought, why not take it one step further and use the coordinating embossing folder. WOW! was my thought when I saw it come out of the Big Shot. Hope you can see the effect in the photo.

I had originally tossed the portion that got cut off into my scrap pile. But in looking at this card again the next day, I took it back and pasted it on the inside!

So now, when the card is closed, you can't tell there is a decorative edge. But when you open it, this is what you see. Clever, isn't it? I was very proud of myself.

Oh! BTW, I realized something while using the edgelit. It's probably best if you position the edgelit die PERPENDICULAR to the crank. The entire thing rolls much smoother through the Big Shot, than if you did it parallel to the crank. When I did it parallel, it made a terrible noise and it was difficult to crank. I seriously thought I might actually break my machine when I did it this way. So, mark my words. DO NOT RUN THE EDGELITS PARALLEL TO THE BIG SHOT CRANK.

Elegant Birthday

Today's card is a total CASE from a swap card found on Linda's blog.

As a demonstrator, we were able to qualify for FREE Sale-a-Bration-exclusive products during our pre-order about a month ago. I only placed enough to qualify for one item at that time, and I wanted to get the biggest bang for my buck. I got the One Big Sale-a-Bration CD. Why, you ask? Well, it contains ALL the Sale-a-Bration-exclusive stamp sets (there are 5 of them), 12 DSPs, 6 ribbons and 5 brads on it. I am using mainly the stamp images and DSPs from the CD, until I can actually physically earn them. Which is starting TOMORROW!

Anyways, I used My Digital Studio, sized down the images from Elementary Elegance stamp brush set to my liking. Modified the colors of the images. Then print, using our Whisper White. After it comes out of the printer, I just cut around the big frame, punched out the sentiment, and the card was done. Seriously, this took less than 5 minutes. It was so fast, I didn't know what to do with myself with the 30min I allotted myself to play. :)

Changes are coming! Current Idea Book & Catalog will expire 5/31/12, rather than June. New Annual Catalog will start 6/1/12! A whole month earlier than before!!! There will NOT be a Summer Mini anymore. Instead, 2 Seasonal Catalogs will replace current Mini Catalogs system.

Annual Catalog

The annual catalog will run from June 1, 2012 (preorder in May) through May 31, 2013.
The annual catalog will be reduced from over 240 pages in the current Idea Book & Catalog to 208 pages.
The annual catalog will be printed on lighter-weight paper.
50 percent reduction from your current cost!
Celebrando Creatividad will remain unchanged.

Seasonal Catalogs

The Occasions, Summer, and Holiday Mini Catalogs will be replaced by two seasonal catalogs called the Holiday Catalog and the Spring Catalog.

Stampin' Up! Leadership

There's no card to share today... we were snowed in; then power went out. We had to escape from our quickly-becoming-freezing house, onto unplowed streets, and seek refuge at inlaws'. Thank goodness they had power. But I didn't grab my external drive that has all my pics. Therefore no cards. But what's worse, is I am only 5min (on a normal day) away from my stampin' supplies! Argh!!!!

Well, in lieu of a card or two to share, I've decided to share some highlights from Stampin' Up!'s Facebook Fan Page of Leadership Convention that's going on right now. I actually qualified to go, mere one year after signing up as a demonstrator. But, family circumstances prevented me from going. But then again, flights are cancelled out of our airport this week, so I think my travel plans would have been derailed anyways. I'm glad to be stuck with my family this week instead. :)

Sorry about the rambling. HERE's a Happy Dance video with the announcement of a Diagonal Tool for the Simply Scored scoring board!!!!!! Oh, I'm so excited. According to reports, it'll cost $11USD, and available for ordering starting 3/1/12!

Baby Time!

Today's card is not particularly CASE'd from anyone. Big surprise, right? I know! :) I need to make a baby card. I knew I wanted to use Nursery Nest DSP. That was about it. So of course I set out to do a search for some inspiration. I went to my trusty Splitcoaststampers.com's gallery. I put in "Nursery Nest" in the search box. Saw some baby cards, but I didn't have the stamps they used. I then decided I was going to use the very recently retired Fun & Fast Notes. There is a buggy stamp in that set. But somehow it just didn't call to me. Then I remember I have a baby wheel from long ago, that had babies doing various things that I knew I could cut up. Anyways, fast forward, and this is the card I came up with.

I LOVE using the new Edgelit dies to make a border accent. I love it so much that I used it again on the inside, on the top AND bottom.

Like I mentioned above, this wheel is from long ago. I bought it because I actually wanted the stamp set that went with the wheel. But I didn't want to spend the money. Then my friend mentioned that if I bought the wheel, I could cut up the stamped image. That was a light-bulb moment. My wheel is unmounted, so I can more easily stamp with it. I don't have the heart to actually cut it up, like some people do yet. So I just stamp the whole thing and then cut up the stamped image into separate pieces.

If your cutting plates are bowed and uneven like mine are, it may be helpful to tape down the edgelit to the plate, and just slide your cardstock between the plate and the edgelit. That way, the cardstock will be nice and snug, and neither the cardstock nor the edgelit will move, giving you precise cutting.

Holiday Buddies

I forgot to share these cards earlier. I had originally set out to CASE Krystal's card. However, one thing led to another, this is what mine ended up looking like. I actually really love these cards. I was able to quickly assemble 20 of these under 90min, including paper cutting time. I think that's pretty good! These cards were easy to make, especially with the Northern Flurries embossing folder. I added glitter glue on top of the snowflakes. Oh, I also love tearing the cardstock. LOL.

If you didn't get a chance to send out holiday cards last month, you can still make this for a winter greeting card. Highly versatile.

Digital Birthday

Today's card is inspired by Patty. I've seen several cards that uses the Hello Doily big stamp as background. Much to my delight, this stamp is available as a digital stamp! As I was playing with My Digital Studio and trying to CASE Patty's card, I realized I didn't have a current flower set that is like what Patty used. I then went through the Idea Book & Catalog and realized that Fabulous Florets is available as a digital stamp brush set. It had been on my wish list that I totally forgot about. Oops. :) Anyways, I quickly purchased it and downloaded it into my computer, and put this together. I was able to put together 12 cards in a very short time. I love using MDS! The only thing that's stamped is the Birthday greeting.

Bonus: this card mails flat, because Seam Binding Ribbon is so thin! Woo-hoo! Only a regular First Class stamp is required.

Welcome to another All Things Stampin' Up! Blog Hop! If you just came from Shellie's blog, welcome! Today we are celebrating the start of Occasions Mini Catalog. I wanted to do something special for this Hop. However, apparently my mojo took a vacation and didn't come back early enough. Caused me severe stress, I tell ya! But not to worry, it came back just in time for me to show you this beautiful card.

I took my inspiration from the card shown on page 15 of the Occasions Mini catalog. I stamped the big bird in the heart image from Take It to Heart stamp set as a background. I cut out the image using the new Framelits die. I have never used anything like this before. Let me tell you, IT'S FUN! :) So easy to use. You can cut exactly where you want. The dies themselves are super thin and store easily. I cannot wait to use these dies on more projects!

Happy New Year, everybody! How was your holidays? Ours was not a memorable one, sorry to say. We were down with 2 rounds of sickness for the two weeks just prior to Christmas. At least the house was quiet with everyone either sleeping or vegging, when they were not throwing up, that is. Anyways, it's a whole new year, and let's hope for a much healthier year!

Perfectly Punched Holiday

Inspired by Belinda. This was my first version. I liked the ribbon tails. But then I decided against this design, as I used too much tape for each portion of the ribbon here.

Next, I decided to go simple, and just have a piece of ribbon across.

Something still was amiss. Last version before send-off. I rounded the corners and used Cherry Cobbler Dotted Scallop ribbon that I got from the Online Extravaganza in November. I also popped up the center of the image and backed with Red Glimmer paper. You might need to click on the photo and zoom in to see it.

I had originally set out to CASE one of Rita's cards. One thing led to another, and all of a sudden, it's totally morphed into a totally different card! LOL. The doily/lace thing is from Flirtatious DSP. There are laser-cut doilies in the DSP, in the colors of Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie. But the back of these are white. A-ha! Dual usage!

BTW, Stampin' Up! just let the demonstrators know this week that the Stocking Builder punch is NOT going to be carried over; nor will it be in the next Idea Book & Catalog. It is now on availability basis... once they run out of current supply, they will not be replenished and will be obsolete! Bird for the Holidays

Wow, is it possible that Christmas is just a few days away??? Having gone on vacation between the holidays and came back to nurse 2 very sick children for the last weeks has made this holiday season a bit blurry for me. Nevertheless, I have yet another holiday card for you.

This card is quite simple to make, using the Two-Step Bird punch. I'm sure I CASE'd this from someone, but I can't find it now. I know I changed the ribbon a bit, but punching the bird out of Glimmer Paper was inspired by "anonymous." Anyways, the most important thing to remember, is to stamp the sentiment BEFORE embossing.

Telescoping Snowman

CASE'd from Becky of Inking Idaho, with very minor tweaks. See her tutorial at her blog or I pasted it for you below.

Isn't he just too cute? Above is him folded up.
Below you see him standing.

I made these to send to my niece and nephew. Just prior to sending them, I added a rhinestone to the flower in the hat and a small piece of ribbon, so they can hang them on their tree. This one is made with Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive. I made a second one with Tempting Turquoise and Daffodil Delight. I love using non-traditional holiday colors!

This version is by Becky Roberts:
Hat is the 1” Square Punch - round the top corners with the Corner Rounder. Brim is the Word Window Punch. Cherry Cobbler Waffle Ribbon for hat band and Boho Blossoms flower in Silver Glimmer paper for the snowflake. Tie a Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine bow.

Head is 1-3/4” Circle Punch in Cherry Cobbler. White 1-1/2” Circle from Circles #2 die-cut. Eyes are 1/4” Circle Punch, nose is a wedge from the Pennant die-cut, mouth is hand drawn.

Center Circle is 2-1/2” Circle of Old Olive. It can be from the punch or the Circles #2 die-cut. White is 2” Circle from Circles #2 die-cut. Emboss with Northern Flurry Die Cut. Buttons are the Circle Punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack. Arms are from the Snowflake Punch.

Bottom Circle is Scallop Circle #2 die-cut in Cherry Cobbler. White is 3” Circle die-cut. Stamp set is Snow Much Fun.

He is assembled with Silver Mini Brads. When assembling him, place the bottom circle so the stamp design is straight in front of you. Place the middle circle with the arms upside down on top of the bottom circle. Make sure the buttons are straight in front of you. Center him within the white area of the bottom circle and add brad.

Unfold him; put the center piece (that is right side up now) straight in front of you. Place his head upside down on the center circle (upside down is not inside out!) so that his hat is facing down towards the bottom of the snowman. Center him within the white circle of the center piece and add brad.

Unfold him and he should be perfect! If he’s too floppy and keeps collapsing in on himself, smash the brads tighter.

I can't figure out whether I CASE'd this from someone... I know for sure I saw the Baroque Motif with something hanging off it somewhere. I just can't find it now. So if anyone knows that I did CASE this from somebody, please let me know!

I tried Dazzling Details then Crystal Effects in the O in "Joy." Except as it was drying, I accidentally touched it. That's why it looks a bit smeared, because it is!

Holiday Trees

CASE'd from Angie Leach. I took her advice and stamped with a darker ink than the cardstock for each of the trees. Each tree requires 3 punches to put together. Just fold each piece in half and glue together. I hand cut the trunk. I didn't measure. I suppose you could also use the trunk that comes with the Pennant Parade stamp set, but I was too lazy to line up and stamp. :)

Sorry for the lack of posts last week. We were on vacation. We came back with the baby being sick and needy. Then I got food poisoning really badly. Oy, at least I've slowly recovered. The baby is still sick, though. My poor boy.

All Things Stampin' Up! Blog Hop: December

It's time for another All Things Stampin' Up! Blog Hop! This time we have the whole crew! You may have come from Shellie's blog. Welcome to those of you who are new to here. The theme this month is All About December Holidays. I decided to use the Petal Cone die, and show you a couple of different projects with it.

This was super simple. Cut two pieces, glue the side flaps together, and you have a cone, or a holiday tree. With this particular piece of DSP, I meant to cut the paper with the ornaments hanging right side up. But in my haste of wanting to make this and show it off, my head was thinking wrong. Oops. Learn from my mistake: when making a cone or tree, the half circles are on the BOTTOM. So when you cut your paper, if you want it to orient a certain way, make sure you turn your paper around. Anyways, since I am loving making these rosettes with our Simply Scored board, I made another quick one to put on the top. Topped off with a piece of snowflake from the Northern Frost strip die and Silver Glimmer paper.

Oh, you probably want to know how I made the little punch thing in the middle. It's done with the Decorative Label punch. I'll do a pictorial for you tomorrow. :)

This cute little thing can be a multi-tasker, especially when you are having guests over for the holidays. You can use it as a place card first. Then as your guests are finished with the fabulous meal you have served, they can take the tree and open from the bottom to find treats inside! Yup, just fill the cone with some more yummies and close the half circle flaps.

The second thing I made for this Hop is a treat holder. I cut just one piece from the Petal Cone die. Glued the side flap down. And cut a scalloped half circle with card stock from the same die. I also embossed the cardstock with Northern Flurries embossing folder. 'Cause, you know, plain cardstock is just, well, so boring! LOL.

Embossed Dasher

Sharing one of the cards from Holiday Card Buffet. This was a very simple card, and involved the first stampin' technique that had me wow'd.... wet embossing. Can't tell from the picture, but Dasher is embossed with clear embossing powder. A simple tip for you, if you only have dye-ink, aka Stampin' Up!'s Classic ink or quick dry ink. Stamp your image in Versamark first, then stamp on your inkpad. Followed by embossing powder on top and heat set with a heat gun. DO NOT USE A HAIR DRYER! That'll just blow your powder everywhere. Anyways, Versamark provides enough "grab" for the embossing powder. No need to get separate pigment ink! Yeah!!!

Anniversary Owls

I CASE'd this card from Julie and Cristena. And I happened to be the Blog Candy Winner on Julie's blog awhile back, too. Too cool. :) Anyways, I just love my owl punch. I have been wanting to CASE this as soon as I saw this, but never really had the chance to make it. One morning last week, I woke up early (thanks to a certain miniature person in our household, lol), and thought I'd make it for a very special friend whose anniversary was coming up. I just love this. It actually look less time than I thought it would take. I punched out all the pieces before glueing anything down.
